2008-2009 Outstanding Students

Carolinas Concert Association is proud to recognize
Kim Diepold

Kim is a senior dance major at Northwest School of the Arts. She is an active member of Key Club, National Honors Society, and serves as the Chapter President of the math honors society, Mu Alpha Theta.

Kim has been dancing since the age of three when she began taking classes at Dance Productions in Charlotte, North Carolina. After four years, she joined the competition team and competed in regional and national dance competitions for the next four years, performing jazz, tap, and lyrical. In 2001, her team was named the Showbiz Junior National Champions.

In 2002, Kim enrolled at Northwest School of the Arts to further her dance studies through school. For the past seven years, she has taken multiple ballet, pointe, modern, and jazz classes there. Kim has been featured in numerous ballets including Don Quixote, Le Corsaire, Paquita, La Bayadere, and Swan Lake, along with many other dance performances featuring original modern and jazz works. In addition, she is also a member of the Northwest School of the Arts Dance Ensemble, a group of dancers that represents the dance department at outside events such as Charlotte Dance Festival.

Outside of school, Kim has been dancing at Piedmont Dance Conservatory under the instruction of former American Ballet Theatre company member, Rebecca Wiley, and Julliard graduate, Daniel Wiley, since the school’s inception in 2003. She is also a member of their community dance company, Piedmont Dance Theater. Through this company, she has performed in annual shows of The Nutcracker, and alongside professional dancers in Serenade, Kingdom of the Shades, Swan Lake, and numerous original pieces.

Kim is also actively involved in bringing dance to the community. Through both Northwest School of the Arts and Piedmont Dance Theater, she has participated North Carolina School of the Arts’ Winter Dance Festival, educational shows at numerous schools, and performances at Bank of America, Carolina’s Medical Center, Discovery Place, and the Opening of the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital. She has also done volunteer work with the Allegro Foundation where she assists in movement classes for children with disabilities.

Kim plans to continue her dance education long after high school and hopes to find a career in the dance world. She is auditioning for dance departments at numerous colleges and plans to major in modern and ballet performance.
